Artist's Comments

This is the first workshop in a series that will focus on traditional darkroom techniques and how to effectively apply them to enhance your images. The series will provide brief overviews of processes and concepts used in all domains of photography, but will give special attention to procedures for Black and White photography.
This first workshop will focus on Black and White film development using traditional darkroom procedures. It will guide you through the process step-by-step from loading film and setting up the chemicals to proper development procedures and agitation techniques. In addition to guiding you through development there will also be some discussion of the different chemicals and techniques used and how deviations in time, temperature, agitation and dilution affect the negative.

I would be very interested to hear from people who have used this tutorial as a guide for developing film. Specifically I would like to know 1) was it helpful? 2) did it work well for you? 3) specific suggestions for improving it. Thanks in advance for the feedback.
-John

Thanks. It required me to submit a preview image for some reason, so I decided to submit a very unflattering self-portrait. hopefully you will find the tutorial as cool as the image.

Is there a darkroom that you use in Thailand??? If there is one that is relatively accesable that would be awesome. I was planning to purchase a DSLR for the trip, but might reconsider if there were adequate darkroom facilities. If there are facilities, how do they control the water temperature??

Its only supposed to be a preview image. They wouldnt let me submit the tutorial without submitting a preview image, so I took a rather strange and unflattering self portrait and made it avatar size and posted it as the preview. So, really I wanted the attention to be on the tutorial rather than the picture. But what can I expect seeing as that it is the only color image in my gallery and that people like to look at pictures much more than read 10 page tutorials on traditional darkroom techniques.

thailand is hot, as u know, so we dont have to worry about keeping the water warm. and we have a fridge to cool it down.
